AYAM– We need your help! Every 2nd grade classroom in SBISD is given the opportunity to come to the Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum (AYAM) for their district fine arts field trip. AYAM needs all volunteers to please complete the SBISD volunteer background check. They now have the Raptor System just like all SBISD Schools and need to be in compliance with the SBISD.

Friday bag delivery to Sherwood and Thornwood

Hi everyone! Come help us deliver bags on Fridays to Sherwood and Thornwood Elementaries! At these 2 schools, you’ll get the chance to go inside the schools and delivery the bags into the students’ backpacks or classrooms. CanCare Golf Classic & Par Tee–  CanCare needs volunteers for the annual golf tournament and ParTee! It was such a beautiful day last year, please consider getting a few hours on Monday October 21! There are many sign up options still available! Click HERE to volunteer.

 

HOUSTON SYMPHONY 

Houston Symphony Volunteer Opportunities for Moms–

FJWC and the Houston Symphony have a long standing relationship in helping to make the student concerts successful! This is a GREAT opportunity for MOMS to earn 8 hours in 1 day since they occur during the school day! Shift is 830am-1pm

Sign up today. Each concert date has 2 concerts with local students attending from schools. Volunteers will arrive at 8:30 to help greet the school buses, escort children to their seats, and escort them back to the buses after the performance. The first concert is at 9am and the second one is at 11:20am. Kids are back on the buses by 1pm and that is when your shift would end. Volunteers are allowed to attend the performance. We would like to have 10 volunteers at each date. NOTE: All performances are at Jones Hall, except Jan. 30 and Jan 31 are at HCU)

Mother and Child Volunteer Opportunity with Houston Symphony- 

FJWC and the Houston Symphony have a long standing relationship in helping to make the student concerts successful! This is a GREAT opportunity for MOMS and CHILD(s) PAIRS to earn 8 hours in 1 day since they occur on a SATURDAY! (Shift is actually only from 8:15am – 1pm but you get 8 hours credit)

Sign up today. Each concert date has 2 concert times – 10am and 11:30am. Volunteers will arrive at 8:15 to start at 9am assisting children with Crafts and other activities related to that dates theme. The most popular activity is the “instrument petting zoo” where children get to try various instruments (violins, flutes, drums”. We ask that Mothers and Children work together, and if your child actually plays an instrument they can help showcase their talent. You should be done to leave around 1pm

We would like to have 10 volunteers at each date.

*Its preferred if you can work the FULL SHIFT, but understand that you may only be able to work 8:15-10 or 11am-1pm. If you sign up and can only volunteer for the HALF SHIFT, please let Ashley Milligan know.

NOTE: All performances are at Jones Hall

– Saturday, November 9 (Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah! The Great American Music)

– Saturday, December 14 (Holy Jolly Holiday)

– Saturday, March 1 (Sherlock Holmes and case of the Missing Maestro)

FOOD PANTRIES

Please consider further serving our food pantries by signing up to volunteer this year. The food pantries essentially operate year round (with the exception of some holiday closures), so it’s a great opportunity for a rewarding experience while getting those hours in! BAYOU CITY BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK

Please help us delivering bags to schools this fall. Signup genius for October, November and December. Please note there are some helper times as well as some deliveries on different days due to school holidays. We appreciate our volunteers!

FAMILY POINT RESOURCES: 

• Donut Dash Nov. 9th –  The FPR Donut Dash is a community-wide 1 Mile Family Walk/Run & 5K Run held at the beautiful Nottingham Park. Participants dash, at their own sweet pace, through the park then enjoy donuts from a variety of Houston vendors after the finish line.

• FAMILY POINT RESOURCES needs some MOM volunteers to help 1st graders with reading on Tuesday afternoon between 3:15-4:15. Please consider volunteering to help these sweet kiddos out.
• Family Point Resources programs rely on volunteers to be successful and help the staff support participants. There are lots of volunteer opportunities on the horizon. It’s a great way for our kids to get hours helping out after school tutoring, playing sports, games and more. Let’s not forget the fun and fantastic Halloween Bash and Friendsgiving… which are also on the horizon. So, follow the steps below to become a volunteer. Both adults and kids need to complete the background check before volunteering.
